Dailies go 'freight-free' to boost sales

Ciba Vision has fuelled competition in the daily disposable sector by freezing freight charges on its Focus Dailies one-day contact lenses.

Practitioners who order two boxes of 30 Dailies lenses, will receive the maximum saving of 23 per cent, avoiding the freight charge of &\#163;3.49. There will be differing degrees of savings throughout the brand's offer. Vanessa McClenaghan, Ciba Vision's marketing manager, contact lenses, said that the offer was aimed at boosting Dailies' acceptance. 'The freight-free period allows practitioners a helping hand in making Focus Dailies their first choice for daily disposable lens patients,' she commented, 'and should encourage more users to this highly popular lens.' - Ciba Vision has acquired the manufacturer of what is claimed to be the only pre-rolled foldable intraocular lens in the world. US-based Ciba Vision has purchased intraocular business Mentor Corporation for a cash-for-assets price of US$38m. Mentor's line of intraocular lenses includes MemoryLens, which is said to be unique because its pre-rolled form can be inserted through a small incision.
