Dan Smithard completes cross-border challenge

A dispensing optician who embarked on a three day 550 mile cycle challenge from Folkestone to Edinburgh Castle has raised thousands of pounds for charity.

Dan Smithard, from Specsavers Epsom, raised £2,000 for Toybox, which helps children living on the streets in Central and South America.

He said: ‘Day one was the hardest as our first stage meant we cycled more than 250 miles. After that, the remaining two days seemed much more manageable and we kept a good pace. We are all thrilled by the total so far.'
