Daily disposable contact lens manufacturer Daysoft reported a 37 per cent rise in profits at £1.5m for 2013, with sales up 12 per cent at over £10m.

Ron Hamilton, founder and chairman of the Blantyre-based business said that sales to UK independent opticians and distributors in certain European countries were maintained, with increased online business to consumer sales through its website  accounting for most growth.

‘By giving fast delivery from stock (we have over 10 million lenses in stock) at half the price of high street multiples we have a unique competitive advantage,’ he said, adding that the company shipped 2,000 orders a day to online wearers around the world.

Plans for the extension of the manufacturing operations were well advanced by the end of 2013 and this would provide for increased capacity as equipment was progressively installed. ‘However, uncertainty surrounding the Scottish Separation vote results will require careful assessment of investment decisions and expansion location. On balance, separation is unlikely to be beneficial to the business given the spread of our sales,’ he said.
