Scottish daily disposable contact lens maker, Daysoft, has completed a £2.5m investment in its Lanarkshire factory, creating 35 new jobs.
Daysoft has sold 200m lenses in 27 countries worldwide and three years ago caused controversy by embarking on a business-to-consumer web venture.
Chairman and founder Ron Hamilton said the move had proved successful: 'We have kept our independent optician customers with us and our partnership rebate has been mutually beneficial.'
He said the optical establishment had failed to grasp the potential of the biggest technological breakthrough for 100 years, the internet.
A series of environmentally friendly innovations has allowed daysoft to produce letterbox friendly packs that provide consumers with 32 lenses delivered to their door for £4.99.
