Disinfection instructions revised

Haag-Streit has announced a revision to its instructions for the cleaning, disinfection, rinsing, drying and storage of its measuring prisms.

The company now recommends the use of disposable gloves to help reduce the risk of transmitting diseases along with the use of a Desinset plastic tray to ensure a safe cleaning process. Single use products and accessories, such as the company's Tonosafe tonometer prism, were also recommended as the safest way to avoid diseases being transmitted.

Sam Laidlaw, product manager for Haag-Streit UK, said: 'A strict disinfection protocol for reusable tonometer prisms is necessary to ensure that the risk of any cross-infection between patients is minimised. To save time and avoid a lengthy sterilisation process, I would always recommend the use of Tonosafe.' An amended disinfectant list was also published, which detailed the suitable products for cleaning prisms in between each use.
