To coincide with the release of the new Apple iPad, EyeDispense has released an updated high definition version. The free of charge update works with the iOS 5.1 operating system and leverages the 1080p recording functionality and retina display of the new iPad. The update was also claimed to bring speed and stability improvements.

Practitioners hold the iPad in front of the patient's face and then pan around the patient while using the app. The process is claimed to take 40 seconds, in which time four frames can be filmed for perusal by the patient. 'The instancy of smart phones means we (ECPs) can often close the dispense when a partner replies with something along the lines of "you look best in picture three",' said app developer David Crystal.
