DO is warned on conduct

Dispensing optician Dr David Austin's fitness to practise was found not to be impaired at a FTP hearing, but he was issued with a warning on his future conduct that would remain on his record until October 3 2016.

It was alleged that between October 1991 and July 2006, (1) he did not refer a patient for regular eye examinations, (2) did not ensure the safe keeping of records, (3) did not provide the patient with a completed and signed specification, (4) continued to fit and dispense contact lenses without a valid Rx and (5) carried on dispensing Precision UV lenses, knowing the patient was wearing them for up to three months, in spite of a wear schedule of 1-7 days of extended wear and no clinical need for such extended wear.
