DO sanction stays

An interim suspension order on DO Lee Wilson should remain in place, a GOC fitness to practise committee has ruled. Wilson was suspended last year after he admitted fitting contact lenses without the correct qualifications.

The committee said it was necessary for the order to remain in place to protect the public and maintain public confidence in the profession. It added there was no evidence presented at the review hearing which suggested that risks to the public identified previously had been reduced.

Concerns were also raised over the registrant's integrity after he admitted patients were actively misled regarding his qualifications to fit contact lenses. The committee said these concerns prevented it from considering a conditional registration.
