Ebony harnesses magnetic power

u South African frame company Ebony Optical, which set up a European base in Rutland late last year, has launched its Ethix Magneteyz range of magnetic sunglasses.

The patented line uses magnets to attach the sunglass to the prescription frame at the temple. This, says company owner Martin Atkinson, gives a stylish, lightweight and high quality pair of sunglasses without a clip-on in sight.
He adds that Magneteyz are manufactured from quality materials sourced around the world, with monel from Wagner in Germany, pads from Frey Winkler in Germany and temple flexes from France.
There are two sunglass lens materials Ð polycarbonate and CR29 UV400 lenses from Sola. Two tints are available in 802S brown and 9330 grey.
ÔIt is vitally important that we use the correct components and therefore source from the specialists in each field,Õ says Mr Atkinson. He adds that the product is extremely well priced.
The magnet strength is described as the optimum power for holding the lens securely in place, yet simple to remove when storing.
ÔMagneteyz are so much more stylish than clip-ons. Lenses get scratched easily by clips and clips get broken easily. With our system you hardly notice the Magneteyz. The overall product is more aesthetically pleasing and shape of the sunglasses matches the frame exactly. You need two hands to put clip-ons in place; with our product you only need to use one hand.Õ
There are 13 models in the range and they are supplied with a protective pouch.
