Waste Free Oceans (WFO) and Eco Eyewear have partnered to launch a waste-catching barrier in Dar es Salaam’s Feza River.
Working with local partner, The Recylers, Eco and WFO said they were on a mission to stop plastic waste entering the ocean, protect marine life and promote sustainability.
The barrier captured ocean-bound plastic waste, which was then recycled and repurposed, with some materials being turned into new, eco-friendly products.
So far, the initiative has prevented at least 249kgs’ worth of plastic bottles and residual waste from flowing into the ocean, according to the first of its series of monthly reports.
