ECOO awards diplomas in Westminster

Three graduates Ð from Germany, Austria and France Ð were awarded their ECOO European Diplomas in Optometry last weekend in Westminster, adding to the two who graduated in 2002.

Wolfgang Cagnolati, chair of the European (Continental) Chapter of the American Academy of Optometry, said: 'I think we will have more graduates in future, but we are happy with the way this qualification is developing.'
The presentation was one of the highlights of the ECOO general assembly which took place in London from May 15-16. Delegates visited the College of Optometrists and dined at the House of Commons.
Students now studying for the Diploma will take their clinical examinations from June 4-6 in Cologne. There will be one written paper and one clinical exercise simulating dealing with a patient who has visual disturbances. Another written examination, including a multiple choice test, will take place in St Etienne, France in October.
The European Chapter will host a major meeting in Oberhausen, Germany from October 2-4, in which up to 900 delegates are expected to attend. It is being organised by the German Contact Lens Association and the Dutch Optometric Association.
