Europe's educators set date for global event

A major conference dedicated to optical continuing education in Europe will take place in Germany next year.

The meeting, organised by three continental bodies, will be the first CET gathering overseen by the European Chapter of the American Academy of Optometry. Billed as a global meeting place for those involved in CET, the conference will be held in Oberhausen, near Dusseldorf, as part of a 'European Vision Event' which will include contributions from Dutch trade body the OVN (the Optometristen Vereniging Nederland), and Germany's group the VDC (Vereinigung Deutscher Contactlinsenspezialisten).
With CET in line to be a compulsory part of UK registration, organisers claim that interest in the topic will continue to expand.
'There is a growing awareness in Europe that regular continuing education should be one of the requirements for prolongation of the practitioner's registration as an optometrist,' said Wolfgang Cagnolati, chairman of the European (Continental) Chapter of the American Academy of Optometry.
'This scientific and continuing education event will give Fellows of the Academy and colleagues who are not yet members of our association theÉ platform to meet colleagues from all over the world to exchange ideas.'
Representatives of the Academy meet with GOCdelegates in Rome today (November 7) at a European Council of Optometry & Optics (ECOO) gathering.
The Chapter has appealed for professionals who are interested in writing multiple-choice questions and other material for the ECOO's European Diploma in Optometry to email Peter Schreiber: p.schreiber zva.deA major conference dedicated to optical continuing education in Europe will take place in Germany next year.
