ECOO exam to be debated in Budapest

The future of a European-wide optometry qualification is on the agenda of an important meeting scheduled to take place in Hungary today (November 8).
ECOO (the European Council of Optometry and Optics) will meet in Budapest to discuss its European Diploma of Optometry after a dozen candidates sat the first written paper of a 'new format' earlier this year.
Some of the candidates, comprising nine German, two French and an Austrian, were completing modules after taking the previous diploma examinations four years ago.
This latest exam took place in Cologne, and the Board of Examiners is due to report on its outcome to a full meeting of ECOO and decide whether successful candidates can add the qualification after their names.
In future it is likely that this exam will be repeated in October and the new format's practical held earlier in the summer. ECOO sources claim there will be over 60 candidates for next year's qualification.
The agreement to expand the EU to Eastern European states is expected to swell the numbers further.
