Edinburgh’s Vision Care for Homeless People (VCHP) clinic has appealed for volunteer optometrists, dispensing opticians and assistants to help maintain its weekly Monday morning drop-in sessions.
Clinic manager Ashley Low explained: ‘We have a superbly equipped testing set-up and separate dispensing room, all with brand new kit. Being within the Crisis Centre on Canongate, EH8, really helps with the flow of clients. We’d love to hear from anyone who could volunteer just once a month. Being within the Crisis building provides a very supportive and safe environment.’
She added that service users were always deeply appreciative of the care they received. VCHP was also welcoming volunteers at its other clinics, with no minimum time requirement.
