Essilor has reported sales for the third quarter up 11.4 per cent, with 3.5 per cent from acquisitions and 1.6 per cent from a positive currency effect.

The company said that the strong performance lifted growth for the first nine months of the year to 5.2 per cent like-for-like, compared with 4.7 in the first half. Like-for-like growth for the quarter was 6.2 per cent.

Essilor added that growth continued to be led by progressive lenses, especially Varilux, the new generation Transitions and Crizal Alize anti-reflection lenses. 'In addition, September saw the launch of the new Essilor Anti-Fatigue unifocal, whose innovative design makes it more comfortable for non-presbyopic adults to wear.'

In Europe, Essilor reported a 2.8 per cent like-for-like increase, sustaining the upward trend seen since the second quarter.
