
Firefighters were called to a blaze at an opticians with flats above on Becontree Avenue, Dagenham, on January 22, prompting them to issue a safety reminder.
A woman was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation following the fire, believed to have been caused by an unattended incense stick.
Crews from Dagenham, Hornchurch, Ilford and Tottenham fire stations responded to the incident at around 10:50am.
The fire, which was thought to have been accidental, was under control by around 11:35am.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: ‘Incense sticks, candles and oil burners are one of the most common causes of fire within homes. It’s really important you never leave these items unattended.'
