Former RCO president dies

Former president of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Peter Wright has died. An obituary in Monday's The Independent reports that Wright, born September 7 1932, died at his home in Bovey Tracey, Devon on May 26.

As well as being the second president of the newly formed RCO from 1991-94, the Moorfields consultant ophthalmic surgeon was an adviser to the Department of Health and also a keen pianist. While studying medicine at King's College Hospital he also studied part-time at the Royal College of Music.
He married Ella Donoghue in 1960 and together they had two daughters and a son. In 1988 their son was killed in the Lockerbie air crash. The marriage dissolved in 1992 and after his presidency at the RCO he retired and settled with his partner John Morris in Devon, where he returned to his music, holding annual summer concerts in their house.
