Moreover, 62 per cent of children participating in the Boots Opticians survey said they considered wearing spectacles as 'cool'.

Researchers attributed this change in attitudes to trendsetting celebrity spectacle wearers.

The biggest concerns about wearing glasses were voiced by parents, with over a third (39 per cent), admitting that they worried that their children would be judged negatively for wearing glasses. However, findings suggested that their concerns were unfounded because the children interviewed were far more concerned that they had the right technology (33 per cent) and were wearing the right clothes (47 per cent) in front of their peers.
