Funding from all sides of the optical profession and industry is needed to roll out a careers roadshow to schools countrywide, delivered by a network of 'ambassadors' from local practices.

The Careers in Optics Working Group presented the latest feedback on the pilot roadshow (News, 10.12.10) at a meeting at London's City University last week. Lessons learnt would be incorporated in a national roll-out to students in years 9-11 in the summer term.

The cost of reaching 2,000 schools in the 2011 campaign would be nearly £70,000 to develop resources, train ambassadors and produce materials, as well as to launch a new website and establish links from other online careers resources.
