William MacKinnon, graduate of Glasgow Caledonian University, has been awarded the OD award for best student in optometry practice at his graduation ceremony.
The 22-year-old from Campbeltown, Scotland, was awarded the prize and a £500 cheque after receiving the highest marks of the year in clinical and practical assessments.
Mackinnon said: ‘It’s an honour to win the OD Award for optometric practice this year. I can’t wait to put the skills and knowledge I’ve acquired during my studies into practice. I’m now looking forward to kick-starting my career in optometry and have my sights set on gaining qualifications in Independent Prescribing. I know I have a long way to go to get there, but I think it’s important to set your goals high. For now, though, I’m concentrating on getting through my pre-reg years.’
