GOC clarifies retention

The General Optical Council (GOC) has issued a statement to clarify that only 12 registrants were removed from the Opticians Register in error on April 1.

The General Optical Council (GOC) has issued a statement to clarify that only 12 registrants were removed from the Opticians Register in error on April 1.

As reported in Optician, (News, 10-04-09), the Council had posted a notice on its website stating that a 'technical error' had resulted in a 'small' number of registrants having been wrongly included in the list of those removed from the Opticians Register.

The Council said this week: 'We are sorry for the concern and inconvenience experienced by those affected, and regret any distress caused by this mistake.

'The Council took steps to rectify the problem as soon as we became aware of it. The registrants involved were immediately reinstated to the registers, and the relevant PCTs and health boards were alerted. We notified the individuals by telephone and letter, apologised for the error, and explained what had gone wrong.'
