GOC hands DO two month suspension

A dispensing optician's actions were found to be dishonest and inappropriate

A Taunton-based dispensing optician has been suspended from the General Optical Council’s register for two months after their fitness to practise was found to be impaired by reason of misconduct.

It was alleged that Frederick Kimsey obtained a pair of spectacles for a customer and friend without payment from the store he worked in.

The fitness to practise committee found Kimsey’s actions were inappropriate because he did not follow the dispensing process or seek approval when submitting a pair of spectacles for a coating failure. His actions were also dishonest because he knew the spectacles did not have a coating failure and he submitted the remake request in an attempt to gain a pair of frames for the patient without either of them paying.
