GOC suspends Bury-based optometrist following assault

Bury-based optometrist Zeeshan Sultan has been suspended from the General Optical Council (GOC) register for six months.

A GOC Fitness to Practice Committee found his fitness to practise impaired by virtue of his convictions to which he had pleaded guilty.

In October 2023, Sultan was convicted of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and assaulting a person and thereby causing them bodily harm, loss of consciousness and psychological distress.

He was sentenced in December 2023 to concurrent sentences of 32 weeks and 20 weeks imprisonment for each charge respectively.
