Anil Rach, an optometrist based in Glenrothes, has been suspended from the GOC’s register for three months after his fitness to practise was found to be impaired due to misconduct.
Rach falsified 21 patient appointments over a six-week period between January 21 and March 2, 2023. At the time, he was working as a student optometrist at Specsavers as part of his pre-registration training.
The facts were proven based on Rach’s full admission to the allegation. The GOC committee deemed Rach’s actions to be misleading, inappropriate and dishonest, as well as damaging to the profession’s reputation.
Rach explained that he created the false appointments because he was struggling with time pressures. He claimed that after voicing his concerns, he received no support.
