The General Optical Council has fallen below expectations in the time it takes to resolve fitness to practice cases.

An annual performance review report by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) has found the GOC met all but two of its 24 standards.

The regulator failed to meet standards relating to how it recorded fitness to practise triage decisions and the total time taken to process fitness to practise complaints.

Lesley Longstone, interim chief executive and registrar, said: ‘In respect of the recording of triage decisions, we accept that this could have been clearer during the period of the review. We are confident that improvements we have already made will have addressed the authority’s concerns in this area.
