Mr Hewitt joined Scrivens in 1963 as chief accountant, progressing to optical director for the company and holding the post until 1996 when he took up the position of group services director. He is not severing all links with Scrivens as he will be offering strategic advice to the board on a non-executive basis. He has also been past chairman of the Federation of Ophthalmic and Dispensing Opticians and is currently chair of both the General Optical Council's companies committee and the FODO education and professional standards committee. Scrivens chairman Alexander Georgevic said: 'Tony has been a great asset to the company and we are glad that he has decided not to hang up his boots completely as we would miss his wealth of experience. We wish him all the best for the future and look forward to seeing him in his new non-executive role.'
