Organisers of the Independents Day conference and exhibition have cancelled the one day event on October 24 because not enough delegates signed up to attend.

The Proven Track Record event, which was meant to be held at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham, would now take place in spring 2022.

Nick Atkins, director of the event, said: ‘Like many other optical events we are sadly a casualty of the current situation and whilst we have continued to add delegates since the summer postponement, sadly the numbers do not make running the event commercially viable.’

He added practices continued to deal with a backlog of patients created by the pandemic, which meant attending events was not a priority for practitioners.
