
Healthwatch England’s new report into the experiences of people waiting for specialist eye care and recommendations for cutting waiting times has been well-received by the optical profession.
The report, A strain on sight: Waiting for NHS specialist eye care, followed a survey by the health and social care champion of 2,568 people about their eye care experiences from July-September 2024.
Responses from 1,051 people, who responded to questions about waiting for secondary eye care, revealed the vast majority (85%) supported the idea of optometrists being able to refer patients without seeing a GP first.
