Inspiration for independents

Former Olympiad and modern pentathlete Professor Greg Whyte has been chosen as the speaker for this year's Independents Night.

The evening event takes place at the Arden Hotel in Birmingham, the night before Independents Day on July 9 at the National Motorcycle Museum.

Nick Atkins, director of event organisers PTR, said: 'Greg is an intelligent and charismatic figure and alongside his knowledge and experience of both coaching and participating in ultra-endurance sporting events, he will give an exciting and awe-inspiring perspective into what it means to participate and succeed in any challenge an individual or team may face.'

PTR said Whyte was known for his training and mentoring celebrities David Walliams and Eddie Izzard in swimming and running marathons feats, and competing in two Olympic Games.
