John David Wiseman, described by Professor Mo Jalie as 'one of the industry's best loved personalities' passed away on April 2, 2010.
Jalie said his former colleague was 'modest, although highly influential in the industry' and a 'great believer in the welfare of its workforce'.
Starting his career at Max Wiseman & Co, Wiseman became a partner in K Blyth Optics, where he remained when it amalgamated with the United Kingdom Optical Group. Together with Ian Brotherton, he was instrumental in setting up the modular workshop courses for the Federation of Manufacturing Opticians and the eventual handover of the courses to the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers. He was a liveryman of the Company and a long serving member of the training committee.
