Optical students are invited to apply for funded work placements in Africa

Optical students have been told it's their last chance this year to apply for a funded optometry visit to Africa.

Supported by the Irvine Aitchison Memorial Fund (IAMF) and Vision Aid Overseas (VAO), there are two £1,700 bursaries which will allow second year optical students, or third year at Glasgow university, to experience work in Africa through a grant made available by the Federation of Ophthalmic and Dispensing Opticians (FODO).

Speaking about her experience visiting Ethiopia, 2016 award winner Amy Gumbrell said: ‘The experience highlighted to me how extremely lucky and privileged we are in the UK for all the facilities and equipment we have so readily available, but also showed me a beautiful country and new culture with welcoming people who were so grateful to receive our help.’

Students should send in their application by October 28. You can find more information here.
