Luxottica floats Sunglass Hut store concept

Luxottica recently marked the start of the summer season in Australia with an innovative Sunglass Hut concept store in Sydney Harbour.

The new pop up store was floated on the water in three different locations around the harbour during late-November.

Luxottica said 10 per cent of proceeds from the concept store would go to the OneSight Foundation, part of Luxottica, which provides and promotes eye care worldwide. The store was designed around the company's circular logo and included a DJ booth and transparent fittings to maximise the views around the harbour.

'Retail is no longer just about four walls and a door and you cannot go past Sydney Harbour for an outdoor store - you would be hard pressed to find a better setting for selling sunglasses in the sun,' said Chris Beer, CEO, Luxottica, Asia Pacific, Greater China and South Africa.

A Luxottica spokesperson said there were no immediate plans to bring the floating store concept to the UK.
