Andrew Miller (pictured) has been named as joint-optometrist of the year by a UK vision charity.

He shared the accolade with optometrist Patricia Wild at the Macular Disease Society's 25th Anniversary Awards for Excellence.

Miller, lead optometrist at charity Focus Birmingham, said: 'It feels amazing to receive an award from the Macular Disease Society, especially as it was nominated by service users. It is wonderful to know that our services are useful and appreciated. Developing and delivering a low vision service is very rewarding.'

Optometrists Amar Shah and Allannah Gaffney were named Fundraisers of the Year after helping raise £25,000 for the society by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
