Cardiff University lecturer and optometrist, Dr Louise Terry, has been awarded the Daphne Jackson Trust Research Fellowship from the Macular Society to explore Stargardt disease.
The research award supported females return to work following a career break and Dr Terry will start the three-year project following maternity leave.
The Stargardt disease research aimed to investigate the use of imaging retinal densitometry, a novel device co-developed at Cardiff University and used to measure the visual pigments in the macula, which looks at how well the retina functions.
Dr Terry will be working with the device’s co-creator Professor Tom Margrain, as well as her supervisors, Professor Marcela Votruba and Rhianon Reynolds.
