Man conquers Britain’s highest peak for eye charity

A Scottish man has climbed Britain’s highest peak to raise money for Ocumel UK.

Chris Jones, 33, was diagnosed with ocular melanoma in 2016 and climbed Ben Nevis with four friends to raise money for the charity, which has supported him since his diagnosis. He has raised £1,600 from the climb and a further £500 by organising a charity football match with his local team Fir Park Corner.

Jones said: ‘I decided to raise money for Ocumel UK as they are the only organisation which supports people with ocular melanoma. With other forms of cancer there are several charities and support groups who can help, but this is not the case with eye cancer. Ocumel UK has been a tower of strength to me and my wife Carol and I wanted to raise as much money as possible for them. I am very grateful for all the people who supported me through my fundraising efforts.’
