MEI donates to coronavirus fight

The machinery supplier has contributed €500k to organisations in Bergamo.

Italian machinery manufacturer MEI, best known for its lens cutting machines, has donated €500k to the fight against coronavirus.

Headquartered in one of the worst affected areas in the world, Bergamo, Italy, the company decided to donate €150k to the Health Protection Agency of Bergamo. It has also donated another €150k to the Papa Giovanni XXIII hospital in the city.

A further €200k has been donated to the Italian Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research in the hope that a solution can be found to the virus.

Stefano Sonzogni, president of MEI, explained: ‘With these donations we wanted to give concrete support to our community and communicate our gratitude to all the healthcare professionals and researchers involved in this emergency.’
