Moorfields charity receives £1m donation

Moorfields Eye Charity has received a £1m donation from the Schroder Foundation and Family towards its new centre for advancing eye health.

The money will be used to enhance education by creating a world-class teaching environment, as well as to promote collaborations for researchers, clinicians, trainees and students.

The centre opening was part of the Oriel project with Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, which was currently under construction and slated for opening in 2027.

Robert Dufton, chief executive at Moorfields Eye Charity, said: ‘Thanks to the support of forward-thinking philanthropists such as The Schroder Foundation and Family, experts at Moorfields Eye Hospital, the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, across the UK and worldwide will benefit from this innovative learning environment within the new eye health centre – ultimately improving patient outcomes.’
