A £440,000 building and refurbishment project at Moorfields Eye Centre in Ealing has been completed.
Moorfields said the new unit now included six examination rooms, two injection rooms for diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a new patient waiting area, clerical and administration area.
It also had a range of services including outpatient clinics and surgical theatres for treating cataracts, glaucoma, general ophthalmology, paediatrics, strabismus, corneal and external diseases, and medical retina.
The refurbishment project took 12 weeks to complete and enabled Moorfields to increase the physical size of the unit, which dealt with 31,795 patients last year.
Moorfields clinical service director Robin Hamilton said: ‘We are very pleased with the results, particularly the new AMD injection suite, which is a welcome boost to the services we offer here. It also means that our patients from the local community in Ealing and the surrounding area can be treated much closer to home and not have to travel into our City Road hospital in central London. The expansion in size of our Moorfields eye centre at Ealing means we can treat more people locally.’
