A new medical retina and intravitreal injection service has been set up by Moorfields Eye Centre at Potters Bar

moorfieldsA new medical retina and intravitreal injection service has been set up by Moorfields Eye Centre at Potters Bar.

The service will run on Wednesdays, Thursdays and with an additional Fluorescein angiography service on alternate Mondays.

A statement said the hospital would treats conditions occuring at the back of the eye, including AMD, diabetic retinopathy and retinal blood vessel blockages, treated drugs, eye drops or injection treatment.

Praveen Patel, the consultant in charge, said: ‘We are delighted to have been able to secure the funding to invest in this new service at Potters Bar.

‘As patients with conditions affecting the retina such as age-related macular degeneration have to be assessed on a regular basis often to provide on-going treatment, it can be difficult for patients to travel into central London. With the specialist AMD and diabetic retinopathy treatments being provided locally by Moorfields’ consultants, patients and carers can access more patient-centred treatment on their doorstep.’

Moorfields treats over 107,851 outpatients a year with medical retina conditions, with the majority of patients seen at Potters Bar having been referred by their GP or optician.
