Glasses Direct founder James Murray Wells has claimed that the General Optical Council is an organisation 'riddled with commercial influence' and that he will not take part in a rigged ballot.
The row over the elections to the council of the GOC emerged in last weekend's national press when Murray Wells accused Specsavers boss Doug Perkins of trying to coerce Specsavers staff into voting for his preferred candidate, Karn Gohil.

Doug Perkins has won the fight to keep me out of the election. I'm not going to stand. If he wants to rig the election that's fine, I'll have nothing to do with it.'
