A call for proposals has been issued by the College of Optometrists for a new research project to evaluate 'enhanced' eye care service models. It is inviting proposals with a budget of up to £300,000, with the aim to provide insights into how the organisation of services impacts on clinical outcomes, patient experience and economic factors. The research will give in-depth evidence, irrespective of future change in the NHS. Michael Bowen, the College's director of research, said the project would be vital in informing future commissioning of eye care services.
Safilo Group is continuing its support of the Special Olympics whose World Summer Games are taking place in Athens until July 4, with 7,000 athletes from more than 170 countries competing in 22 sports. Between 2010 and 2011 Safilo has donated more than 80,000 frames and sunglasses for the athletes, who also benefit from vision screening.
