The July 4 event will feature new skills workshops on PR and merchandising, along with a 40 company strong exhibition. A US man whose eye was blinded when he was hit with a stone as a child, has had his vision restored. The 63-year-old was able to detect light in his eye after being treated with a drug to stop new vessels forming at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Doctors reattached his retina and believe the low 'height' of the retinal detachment led to the successful treatment.
Safilo Group and Valentino will not renew their licence deal for frame and sunglass production past this year, stating that they have mutually decided to pursue other opportunities of growth. The partnership started in 1998. However, luxury brand Alexander McQueen announced that it had renewed its licence with Safilo for frame and sunglass production to the end of 2015.
The Association for Independent Optometry is hosting its conference at Kilworth House Hotel near Market Harborough from October 7-9. There will be CET lectures from ophthalmic surgeons, an ABDO lecture and lens development news. The social programme includes a Saturday evening ceilidh band. Boots Opticians has opened its 500th practice. The Colchester branch is the latest part of its programme to rebrand Dollond & Aitchison outlets following a merger in 2009. The companies are also moving to a single supply chain. There are almost 700 practices across the chain, including some still branded as Dollond & Aitchison.
