The College of Optometrists has published its annual report, revealing that it invested over £200,000 in research grants and featured in 530 items of media coverage during the last financial year. The report can be downloaded from www.college-optometrists.org
Brian Ariel, a 70-year-old optometrist, has written two books. One, a collection of personal trivia entitled Everything you never wanted to know and never bothered to ask, includes a section on notables in ophthalmics. The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) of America has announced the launch of a new standards process for 3D frames. It is seeking proposals for standardising 3D active eyewear that uses an infrared synchronised interface from electronics manufacturers. 'The expanding presence of 3D TV in the home makes the need for interoperable 3D glasses more urgent than ever,' said Brian Markwalter, CEA vice president of research and standards. CEA stated that creating a standard for 3D active eyewear could help break down consumer barriers to purchasing 3D TVs.
