A newspaper article has reported on the quality of frames and lenses of £70 spectacles.
Glasses from Specsavers, Asda, Boots, Vision Express and Tesco were all included in a test carried out by The Daily Mail, which rated frames and lenses and overall quality. Dr Sneh Khemka, medical director at Bupa International and former eye surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital, was drafted in to give an impartial judgement.
Supermarket Asda achieved top honours in the test. Its Jeff Banks glasses scored 8.5 out of 10, but staff were said to have exuded indifference and confusion.
Multiple Vision Express fared worst, with its glasses scoring just 5 out of 10. The article claimed none of the lenses tested matched the prescription given to the reporter.
