This year’s National Optical Conference will focus on the NHS Call to Action for Eye Health, its organiser LOCSU has announced.

The Call to Action would act as a rallying cry to galvanise the optical sector, said LOCSU MD Katrina Venerus.

‘It’s a pivotal year in the eye health sector,’ she said. ‘And the recent Call to Action offers those working in the optical world a great opportunity to help shape the sector and ensure that ? through their Local Optical Committee ? eye health is a top priority for Commissioners and Health and Wellbeing Boards.’

The Call to Action for Eye Health, due to be launched this month by NHS England, was expected to focus on a preventative approach and in tandem with moves by general practice, dentistry and pharmacy ? ahead of the publication of a national strategy for primary care in October.
