Former optometrist Wioletta (Wio) Syson died in August this year after falling ill in early 2009.

Syson graduated in optometry from City University in 1985 and after carrying out a pre-registration placement with Dollond & Aitchison she worked for Boots Opticians in Brent Cross until the mid 1990s.

She is described as having been a diligent and caring optometrist, but also a born traveller and after several trips to the Far East she eventually left behind her career in optometry to live in Hong Kong.

There her natural talent in drama and theatre shone through and she took up a career in voice-over work, securing contracts with the largest TV network in Hong Kong among others. She was married to Steve and they had two children, Indi and Nina, prompting a move back to the UK when they reached school age.

Syson was described as a unique individual whose joie de vivre and energy touched the lives of all she met.
