Opticians hosts Belarus children to help them manage radiation effects

For the third year running Observatory the Opticians in Beccles has welcomed a group of children from Belarus plus interpreter, as part of a programme to help those living in the area affected by the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear radiation disaster.

The Chenobyl Children’s Lifeline Charity bring the children over to the UK for one month each year, allowing children access to healthcare professionals and time to detox from the radiation they live with at home.

This year, Observatory was visited by eight children who all had sight tests. Two were awaiting new glasses.
