OC voices opinion on vision strategy refresh

Eye health

An opportunity to participate in a consultation to refresh the UK Vision Strategy (UKVS) has been welcomed by the Optical Confederation, but the body said it had a number of comments on the Strategy's overall direction.

'We understand the reason for a "refresh", building on what works, rather than starting again from first principles, but nevertheless feel the overall structure of this consultation is disappointingly constraining,' the OC statement said.

The Confederation said it would have preferred a more 'open format' which would have allowed scope to comment on overall direction and how to find a balance between the strategy's objectives.

The OC also felt that terminology within the strategy refresh could be sharpened up by using terms such as aims instead of 'strategic outcomes'. It said this 'subtle but significant' shift in terminology would strengthen the strategy and make the aims clearer to external stakeholders and those unfamiliar with the UKVS.
