Ewan McFarlane founder of online retailer Metsuki has stated that he will continue to campaign for the pupillary distance (PD) measurement to become part of the eye test.
His statement comes after confirmation from Andrew Lansley, secretary of state for health, that there are no plans to make the provision of PD a requirement following an eye examination (News 22.04.11).
McFarlane told Optician: 'In the recent past the GOC have publicly argued against reviewing the sight testing regulations citing that their principal role is "protecting patient safety". They have consistently rejected the blatantly anti-competitive nature of the regulations which they set as grounds for review, despite the fact that they have a duty and legal obligation to assess the impact of their regulations on competition.'
