A landmark manslaughter trial got underway at Ipswich Crown Court earlier this week as proceedings against locum OO Honey Rose began (Monday July 4).
Rose stands accused of the manslaughter of eight-year-old Vincent Barker by gross negligence. It is the first time an eye care professional has faced a charge of manslaughter relating to clinical failings.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, prosecutors intend to allege that Rose, who was working for Boots Opticians at the time, failed to spot evidence of papilledema. Barker died from a build-up of fluid on his brain in July 2012.
On the day the trial began, Rose spoke only to plead not guilty to the charge.
